Synopsis: Love Letters to a Serial Killer

Can a Dare Lead to True Love, or Just Trouble?

She swore off love long ago, believing it was something she could never truly deserve. And the last thing she wants is to be tied down, so when Archer—the mysterious drifter with smoldering hazel eyes—shows up, he seems perfect for a no-strings fling. But when Archer turns out to be Cedar, a Winter Falls local with deep roots in the town, everything changes.

Furious and feeling betrayed, she challenges Cedar to stay in Winter Falls for six months, thinking he’ll bail. But to her surprise, he accepts the dare, determined to prove she deserves more than just a casual connection. As Cedar settles in and brings out her softer side, her resolve to keep things casual starts to crumble. The town’s eccentric residents (who can’t keep their noses out of her love life) and Cedar’s unwavering belief in her begin to break down her walls.

Set in the lively small town of Winter Falls, this friends-with-benefits-to-lovers romantic comedy is full of heart, humor, and quirky characters. With a meddling sister duo, a charming three-legged dog, and the whole hippie town rooting for Cedar and her, this story is a delightful journey of self-acceptance, forgiveness, and the surprising power of love—even when it begins with a dare.

Review Meet Dare

D.E. Haggerty’s, 3rd book in the Dempsey Sisters series.

Delivers the familiar warmth of small-town romance with its signature quirks, especially the town’s love of gossip and betting on anything and everything. Winter Falls wouldn’t be the same without the ever-present Gossip Girls—a group of women whose matchmaking efforts and enthusiasm for the latest rumors keep things lively. The town itself is as much a character as the people within it, creating an inviting atmosphere that draws readers into each new story.

The romance between Cassandra and Cedar in Meet Dare offers is a feel-good experience expected from Haggerty’s writing.

However it doesn’t reach the same highs as her previous novels in the series. The angst both characters bring into their relationship feels a bit heavy-handed.

With Cassandra’s concerns, while it is understandable, seems like it might have been resolved sooner with some family transparency. Which makes her hesitation feel slightly overdone.

Similarly with Cedar’s internal struggles initially weighty but are resolved rather quickly. Suggesting even the author might have felt they were a touch exaggerated.

However, these issues fit within the framework of a small-town romance, where the conflicts need to be significant enough to introduce tension but manageable enough for a satisfying resolution.

Cassandra and Cedar’s issues, though not as compelling as in other books in the Dempsey sisters series, meet this balance. Providing just the right amount of drama without derailing the overall tone of the Romance.

Conclusion

In the end, Meet Dare is an enjoyable addition to the Winter Falls series, bringing the expected charm of a small-town romance with characters that readers will root for. Fans of Haggerty’s work and lovers of cozy, low-stakes romance will find this a pleasant read, even if it doesn’t quite reach the same heights as other books in the series.
