Riley needs to turn right back around and leave because I refuse to fall for his charm again. Sure, I once gazed into those mesmerizing ocean-blue eyes and fell hard, but I’ve learned my lesson. He’s not one for commitment.

No matter what antics the nosy folks in my quirky hometown pull, they won’t sway me into giving Riley another shot. I’m standing firm in my decision, despite my longing for his embrace.

However, when Riley reveals the reason behind his disappearance, doubts begin to creep in. Maybe, just maybe, he deserves a second chance after all.

Review

Riley’s assumption that he can simply stroll back into Winter Falls and reconcile with Moon is swiftly met with a sharp slap instead of a warm embrace. Moon’s dissatisfaction stems from Riley’s past habit of ghosting her, a pattern that has repeated itself all too often.

Returning once more to Winter Falls, the setting for the inaugural instalment of her Bragg Brothers series, D.E. Haggerty (for others check this internal link here)crafts a narrative of second-chance romance that adheres to classic tropes while injecting her own distinctive flair, as seen in her previous works set in the same locale.

The quaint, environmentally-conscious small town of Winter Falls is depicted with its eccentric inhabitants, such as the free-spirited Forrest who roams about half-dressed, and the meddlesome gossipmongers who delight in orchestrating romantic entanglements.

At the heart of the story lies the rekindling of romance between Riley and Moon, which revolves primarily around the second-chance trope. Both protagonists grapple with personal issues that contributed to Riley’s past disappearances and Moon’s subsequent emotional turmoil.

While “Bragg’s Truth” may be steeped in angst and self-pity, it is not without moments of levity and genuine humor characteristic of Haggerty’s writing style. Despite not ranking as my preferred among Haggerty’s works, it nevertheless offers a delightful escape into the realm of light-hearted romance.

Conclusion

“Bragg’s Truth” by D.E. Haggerty offers a captivating narrative of second-chance romance set in the quaint town of Winter Falls. Through Riley’s attempt to mend his relationship with Moon, the novel explores themes of love, forgiveness, and personal growth, skilfully blending classic romance tropes with Haggerty’s unique storytelling style.

The vibrant backdrop of Winter Falls, populated by eccentric characters and idyllic scenery, enhances the narrative, while the nuanced dynamics between Riley and Moon drive the plot forward, keeping readers immersed until the satisfying conclusion.

Despite its moments of emotional depth, “Bragg’s Truth” maintains a delightful balance of humour and levity, ensuring an engaging reading experience. While it may not be the standout favourite among Haggerty’s works, the novel remains a heart-warming and entertaining journey into the complexities of relationships and the power of second chances, ultimately leaving readers with a renewed belief in the transformative nature of love.
