When Brody Bragg unexpectedly shows up at Soleil’s door, those pleading baby blue eyes tug at her heartstrings. Wich means she can’t turn him away, so reluctantly agrees to let him stay in her home.

But let’s be clear: Brody is just a roommate, nothing more. He can flaunt his impressive six-pack abs all he wants, but Soleil is still not giving in to any romantic notions. Even if circumstances leads them to share a bed after his Brody’s goes up in flames.

Sure, Soleil might unconsciously snuggle into his comforting arms while I sleep, but that’s as far as it goes. Brody may mean well, but he’s too young and immature for her tastes. As she looking for a partner who can take care of her, not someone to babysit.

Brody however seems convinced that he can change Soleil’s mind and win her over. Spoiler alert: blasting loud music and startling her, causing me to drop the pottery she’s been working on, will not exactly help Brody’s cause.

In this quirky small-town romantic comedy, you’ll find a woman longing for a mature partner, a well-meaning but accident-prone man with big dreams, a bunch of brothers who find amusement in their sibling’s romantic misadventures, and a community of hippies who fancy themselves as expert matchmakers.

Review

“Bragg’s Match,” the fourth or fifth instalment in D.E. Haggerty’s engaging series, The Bragg Brothers, depending if you include the writer’s Prequal Not a Bragg (Click here for books and prequal) unfolds in the picturesque setting of Winter Falls, a quaint small environmental town run by gossiping, match making, betting hippies brimming with charm.

This particular romcom delves into an intriguing age gap, forced proximity, romance between Soleil, the elder woman who has shouldered familial responsibilities from a young age, and Brody, the younger of the Bragg brothers as well as the two protagonists.

Soleil’s upbringing, influenced by her father’s youthfulness and her mother’s illness, has left her with a sense of maturity beyond her years. She perceives Brody as lacking in this, along with his penchant for pranks and excessive screen time indicative of a reluctance to embrace adult responsibilities in her eyes.

Immersing oneself in a D.E. Haggerty’s romcom set in Winter Falls is akin to slipping into a familiar pair of Trainers that sometimes contain a small pebble—comforting and cozy, yet with unexpected twists that keep readers eagerly turning the pages.

The meddling gossip girls, while potentially exasperating in real life, add an endearing touch of interference to the narrative, contributing to the town’s vibrant dynamics.

While “Bragg’s Match” follows some familiar romance tropes such as forced proximity i.e. sharing a single bed, and an age gap although this time the female lead is the elder of the couple, it transcends mere predictability through Haggerty’s adept storytelling.

So despite the presence of these conventional elements, the novel is imbued with comic relief and compelling characters that elevate it above standard romance fare, ensuring an enjoyable and engaging read for fans of the genre.

Conclusion

At its core, the novel explores an age gap and forced proximity romance between Soleil and Brody, the younger Bragg brother. Soleil’s mature demeanor, shaped by familial responsibilities and past experiences, contrasts with Brody’s carefree nature. Their dynamic, interwoven with familial duties, forms the crux of a narrative that keeps readers eagerly engaged.

Haggerty skilfully breathes fresh life into familiar romance tropes forced proximity and an age gap which form the plot line for this romance.

With Soleil taking the lead as the elder partner. Despite these conventions, “Bragg’s Match” deftly avoids predictability, offering a blend of humour, depth, and well-developed characters that captivates fans of the genre.

With its engaging storyline and vibrant setting, this romcom promises an enjoyable escape and leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next instalment in The Bragg Brothers series.
