Father Brown

A Roman Catholic priest, uses his powers of observation and an insight to human behaviour to solve cases.

Brother Cadfael

A Benedictine monk and herbalist, born in 1080 fighting in the crusades in 1096 under Robert II Duke of Normandy, returning to England in, 1114 and becoming a foot soldier under Henry 1 of England to secure a union with Normandy.

Did not become a Benadictine monk until middle age.

Miss Marple

An elderly unmarried spinster who lives in the English village of St. Mary Mead acting as an amateur detective using her extensive knowledge of human life.

Lord Peter Wimsey

Bredon Wimsey DSO 17th Duke of Denver, solves mysteries in his spare tome as a hobby, portrayed as a standard British aristircrat.

Sherlock Holmes

The original consulting detective and first well known fictional detective, Sherlock is known for his keen observation, deduction, forensic science and logical reasoning.

Hercule Poirot

A refugee form Belgium during the first world war who as a former police officer in his home country became a private detective in London after the war.

Inspector Adam Dalgleish

A full time policeman, a private individual who also write poetry in his spare time.

Inspector Morse

Endeavour Morse is a son of a Taxi driver although comes across as a middle class Englishmen with all their prejudice.

Kurt Wallander

A fan of the opera Wallander is a fulltime policeman in the Swedish police., based in the town of Ysted a town south east of Malmo.

John Rebus

A detective in the Lothian and Borders Police, stationed in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, a former member of the British armed forces including the SAS.

William Edward “Jack” Frost

A sloppy and untidy man you does not do his paper work although he is unmatched in his ability to solve crimes.

Harry Hole

A Norwegian police officer who is prone to depression, as well as being a chain-smoker alcoholic in the first novel.

An ethnic Pole whose parents came over during world war 2, a member of the English Police force set in the east midland city of Nottingham

Alan Grant

A police inspector based at Scotland Yard form the golden age of British detectives though darker in tone.

Marcus Didius Falco

An Ancient Roman “Detective” set during the reign of emperor Vespasian (69-79) AD.

V.I. Warshawski

A Private Investigator who went to the University of Chicago on a basketball scholarship in the 1960’s, gaining a Law Degree becoming a public defender and a police office focasing on white collar crime before becoming a P.I..

Reginald Wexford

A chief Inspector in the British police force based in Kingsmarkham a fictional town in the English county of Sussex, who is intelligent, sensitive man with a wife and two daughters.

Mike Hammer

An American Typical Hard man whose violence is written into the novels, that is fuelled by his anger against violent crimes.

Flavia Albia

A British-born female investigator and the adopted daughter of Lindsey Davies other ancient Roman Detective Falco.

Cesare Aldo

a former soldier and now an officer in the most feared criminal court of Florence Italy set during the Renaissance.

William Warwick

Unlike is farther Sir Julian QC and his sister grace William became a police man in the Metropolitan police in London.
